Leeann Carey

Come practice with me!

I’ve practiced yoga for the past three decades. I’ve continued through the last 24 years teaching and sharing my practice through my unique Hatha yoga style because…it makes me feel good. My practice helps to keep me connected to something larger than myself. We all need this special connection. I just can’t seem to live as I’d like to without it.

Visiting my brother at Berkeley in the late 70’s is where my practice officially began, but…

Honestly, I’d have to say my infamous “bug-walk” at 8 years old must have been the early signs of that yogi to be. Me.

Here’s an 8 year olds crude example of the yoga pose, Malasana…

I would squat on the floor, wrap my gangly arms (at that time) around my outer shins and lock my hands onto opposite wrists behind my back..and that’s not all…can you visualize this?

I would waddle up and down the living room floor while my parents would claim that I was doing the "bug-walk". Since then, whenever my family craved a little strange entertainment, they would beg for me to "do the bug-walk, Leeann!" They would howl with laughter.

In truth, the famous “bug-walk” asana hasn’t seen the light of day in recent years. I’ve moved on... Seriously!

Hundreds of yoga teachers have passed through my well respected teacher training programs. It makes me smile to know that I have influenced many that have spread the yoga seed throughout the world.

Based in Los Angeles I’ve taught many celebrities and many professional and Olympic athletes.

I teach public classes, workshops, retreats, teacher trainings and private students.

My favorite person to share the light and contentment of yoga with is you. Famous people are fun to teach sometimes, but the light that I see in your eyes when you get yet another stage of yoga’s journey is the best!

I also have a sincere and devoted self practice. I know that I, and you, can use our practice to confront and remedy our own personal obstacles. Truthfully, overcoming my personal obstacles and demons and staying healthy, keeps me forever practicing yoga.

I am committed to offering a level of study and practice to those that reach out for the same.

My students have called me a strong-minded teacher with a compassionate heart. My belief: Nothing can get better unless it starts with something good. I am very watchful of your quality of presence, that extra ingredient necessary in mindfulness, that special mindfulness that I encourage you to develop while you are practicing with me.

A meaningful and mindful study uses the practice to question who we are. The understanding of who we are is putting ourselves in a situation where we can stop the movement of the mind so that we can see things exactly as they are…and not as we think they are. This kind of a yoga practice replaces habit with mindfulness.

My main influence has been Sri B.K.S. Iyengar, with Kofi Busia as my primary teacher.

I teach classical Hatha Yoga as a journey into the soul. My teaching offers thematic classes and a look into yogic philosophy while practicing the asanas.

What kind of a yoga teacher am I?

When studying with me you will learn how to be flexible, strong AND be calm. Learn the challenging asanas (or life's situations) without ruffling your consciousness. I teach my yoga students to cultivate a peaceful mind all of the time - not just some of the time. My classes are intelligent, creative and fun. They will teach you how to be flexible, strong and calm throughout today and life.

My classes are not just for knowing yourself or balancing your strengths and weaknesses. They are for tuning into stillness and turning the knowing into being and doing.

Yoga is always about practice.

Come practice with me.
